Our Survival kukri!

There's no need to reinvent what has worked for centuries; sometimes a simple restyling is all that's needed. Simply put, this Kukri is one of the best survival knives in its size range. It can cut with the power of a hatchet, but it's also great for skinning, carving, digging, and smashing.

While some Western historians speculate that the kukri was based on similar European weapons and brought to South Asia by Alexander the Great, others trace its history much further back to the domestic sickle and the prehistoric bent stick used for hunting and later in hand-to-hand combat. Some even consider the kukri to be the first-ever survival knife. Its curved blade makes it effective as both a chopping and slashing weapon, and the user need not angle their wrist during a chopping motion. In extreme combat situations, the heavy blade can inflict deep wounds and cut through muscle and bone.

Though the kukri is most famous for military use, it's actually a versatile tool that's widely used in Nepal for various purposes, from building and clearing to chopping firewood, digging, cutting meat and vegetables, skinning animals, and opening cans.

Just Extreme tool, no bullshit!

★★★★★ The FKMD Kukri received the highest customer evaluation

★★★★★ I bought this as I liked the look of it and fancied trying out a kukri style knife. The knife looks really good and feels great. The design makes it a brilliant chopper. I was surprised at it's sharpness, mine was hair popping sharp. It looks, feels and performs like a far more expensive knife. The sheath is very good, it is quite rigid and seems very well made. The leg straps are rubberised on the inside to stop things sliding about. I took the upper one off as not needed with my leg size and length. It is a lot of fun to use, and like most of the knives I own just a hell of a lot of fun to fiddle about with. August 2013. This review applies to the Extreme Kukri version.

★★★★★ Spent a good year of research into getting a good Kukri, reading other reviews and blade forums watching YouTube etc! Eventually went for the Trakker, and I can honestly say it's was a bloody good choice, I already own the Parang Bushcraft which I love for the size and weight and the quality of finish on the Trakker is every bit as good, nice weight and a great grip yet again, it's an excellent tool and I was well chuffed when it turned up and had N690CO stamped on it! Result! HH excellent as ever. September 2012. This review applies to the Extreme Kukri version.

★★★★★ Good weight to the blade, though smaller than most kukris it still handles the rough stuff. Nice firm but unrestrictive leg sheath and a decent edge out of the box. Cracking service from HH too, delivery was good and sharpish.

★★★★★ this is an exceptional tool. smaller than other kukris but cuts and chops as good if not better. the sheath system supplied is great and the kukri came sharp although not as sharp as i expected.gave it 4 as it does not come in n690co as advertised. excellent service from Heinnie.

★★★★★ Had mixed feeling about this kukri for a long time but it was this or british service issue and this one won. Thought id give a modern kukri a go , much smaller and lighter than most kukris, sheath will take a bit of getting used to as will handle but great blade all round. Cuts like a dream hope its easy to keep sharp , great service from HH thanks guys.

★★★★★ THIS BLADE MEETS ANYONE EXPECTATION IN A WELL MADE KNIFE OR CUTTING INSTRUMENT

GREAT JOB I LOVE IT

★★★★★ Fantastic knife as ussual with fox pieces, the coating is not as hard as it would be expected. Design and manufacturing is exceptional. I bought it from styperdoo, fantastic service.

★★★★★ Really nice knife, don't have anything bad to say, this is a real working tool not for show.

★★★★★ I really like this Kukri, it's light, very sharp, and it's got a cool shape. This would be great during the apocalypse, whether I'm fighting zombies, or other people trying to steal my Doritos, I know with this blade, there's no way those zombies are getting anywhere near my Doritos! Fox makes some beautiful blades, and I for one, can't wait to experience more of them... I highly recommend and would buy again

★★★★★ I bought this product for my boyfriend who is a knife aficionado. He is incredibly thrilled with this product. He was looking at a few other higher dollar kukari but the reviews weren't as good as this one. The whole package was great; the price, the look, the sheath, everything! We will definitely be looking into more knifes of this brand.

★★★★★ This knife is very well made. It's very balanced and considerably lighter than a standard kukri. Very sharp out of the box. As others have said, I''m not crazy about the sheath and will look to replace it soon.

★★★★★ Knife - Excellent, and deadly sharp.

Sheath - Nylon? Cut mine open the first time I went to put it back in the sheath. Not very functional for this blade.

★★★★★ little weird to sharpen but it does exactly what i need from it super tough

★★★★★ Everything I expected and more.

★★★★★ Really nice knife, don't have anything bad to say, this is a real working tool not for show.

★★★★★ Fox Knives, Italy has surely got themselves a winner with the Extreme Kukri! I have the bronze ceramic coating on mine, and I believe the black coating is Teflon (if nothing sticks to Teflon, how does it stick to the blade?) so I'm not sure how it performs. Given that, I'll stick to functionality. Blade is shaving sharp on all three grinds. Tango tip is thick and strong, but still piercing sharp. The handle will take some getting used to, but form you some nice bushman callouses after extended uses. It should come off easy if you want to make scales of your own. Balance is heavy forward as a chopper of this nature should be. Still quick in the hand, and good on recovery time if used as a defense tool. The N690Co steel is tough as nails, takes a wicked edge, keeps it for a good while, and sharpens up nice, though with some effort. I wouldn't throw with it, though it should be able to take its licks with that foolishness. All in all, a good bushman's tool, a fantastic weapon for defense, and a fair price if you look around. Maker direct is always the priciest option.

★★★★★ I own many "High Quality" knives, the "Fox of Italy" is one of the best in everything that I can ask for in serious blade production, I love the N690Co steel, the heat treatment, the materials used for the sheath and scales, all are top of the line. The attention to detail is right up there with many of the "One of a kind" blades I own, you get what you pay for, the price is a bit higher than some other "Blade smith's", but the overall quality and reliability is well worth the price, Thanks Amazon for the ability to buy such a fine imported "Work of Art", very functional as well!!

★★★★★ I really like this Kukri, it's light, very sharp, and it's got a cool shape. ★★★★★ The best knife I own.

★★★★★ Unlike some people, I am not gaga over knives. I do not collect them or worship them. I view them as tools, much like a hammer or tape measure. That said, I am nuts over this particular example.

A kukri is one of the most versatile, general purpose knives you can own. It can chop carrots, skin an apple, cut down small trees, open a box, and you can use it defend yourself if you have to. Kukris have been used for centuries in southern Asia as for any task you can conceive of.

I won't split hairs: this example made by Fox is expensive. However with knife you get what you pay for. You can buy a kukri for 30 dollars, and truth be told for most people it will be enough to cover their needs. However, it will eventually fail, and over your lifetime you will probably go through several. My philosophy is to buy the best quality you can upfront, and therefore replace the item as few times as possible. To use an analogy, a thousand dollar car is much cheaper than a ten thousand dollar car, but when you add it maintenance and replacement cost your better off buying higher quality to begin with. Spend more money now and save more money in the long run.

The Fox knife uses a special kind of stainless steel that has cobalt added to the mixture. Brief metallurgical lesson: carbon steel blades are sharper and hold an edge better than stainless steel. Because they rust easily, they require more maintenance. Stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion n and thus requires less care, but the edge isn't as good. Adding cobalt to stainless steel bridges the gap between carbon and stainless: a good, sharp edge, but less fussy. It's a tradeoff, but I feel it is a fair one.

★★★★★ Have this in bronze/OD green. Shaving sharp out it the box, very thick steel. It feels so different in my hand than any other knife I own. It's smaller than say the Kabar version, but makes that one feel like a toy. This kukri inspires confidence as a survival chopper. It's going to outlast your ability to use it.
